Adaptive Sports Program of Ohio
The Adaptive Sports Program of Ohio (ASPO) is a 501(c)3 organization established to promote the health and wellness of individuals with physical disabilities by providing competitive and recreational adaptive sport opportunities throughout the State of Ohio. Currently, ASPO offers eight sports in Northeast Ohio, and has partnered with the U.S. Olympic Committee to offer Paralympic Sport Northeast Ohio. Our headquarters are in Wooster, Ohio, however, we have active programming in Cleveland, Akron, Columbus, Wooster, and more.
Our mantra is ldquoDream. Excel. Inspire.rdquo
DREAM is the introductory level of our adaptive programming, in which we host adaptive sport clinics and presentations educating individuals with and without disabilities, healthcare professionals and school staff on the importance of being physically active despite having a physical impairment.
EXCEL is the program we provide to help adaptive athletes excel in their sport of choice. ldquoExcelrdquo is accomplished through regular practices, competitions/tournaments that we offer, and yearly sport specific training camps.
INSPIRE is how we utilize our athletes in an athlete ambassador program to inspire other individuals with disabilities to engage in adaptive sports through peer mentoring and speaking engagements, and also inspire the community as a whole to view individuals with disabilities in a positive light.
