Flying Horse Farms

Our camp

Flying Horse Farms provides magical, transformative camp experiences for children with serious illnesses and their families ndash free of charge. Located in Mt. Gilead, Ohio, camp first opened its gates in 2010 and hosts about 900 children and families each year.

Our campers
The children who attend camp have illnesses including cancer, heart conditions, rheumatoid arthritis, blood disorders, asthma, gastrointestinal disorders and craniofacial anomalies. Wersquove designed every detail of the camp experience to help our campers leave sickness behind while theyrsquore here.

Our camp experience
Swimming, boating, fishing, canine therapy, high ropes, archery, and arts and crafts are just the beginning of the adventure at Flying Horse Farms. Each activity is designed to ensure every camper can participate and feel a sense of pride, accomplishment and freedom.

Our healthcare team
Flying Horse Farms is proud to have the support of eight Ohio childrenrsquos hospitals and Childrenrsquos Hospital of Pittsburgh. Campers receive first-rate care at our on-site health center, The WellNest, staffed 24/7 by medical professionals from childrenrsquos hospitals across Ohio and the Midwest.

Our history
In 2005, Columbus couple Jenni and David Belford were moved to build a permanent, year-round camp for children with serious illnesses. They coined our name from the book The Big Red Barn, in which a ldquogolden flying horserdquo weather vane sits atop a barn on a farm where kids and animals play freely.

Our legacy
Flying Horse Farms is the first camp in the Midwest to become a member of the Serious Fun Childrenrsquos Network. Founded in 1988 by actor, philanthropist, and Ohio native, Paul Newman, the Network is a community of independently managed and financed camps and programs creating opportunities for children with serious illnesses and their families. The Network has evolved from one camp in Connecticut to a growing global community touching the lives of 864,000 children and families from 50 countries, across five continents.&amp
